How Do You Bet on Soccer?

Soccer might not be a popular sport to wager on in the United States, but it is extremely popular worldwide. This is a sport that offers some different betting options than what you find with other sports, and that is actually what makes it a good betting option.  Soccer games are low-scoring by nature, and that impacts how people bet on the sport of soccer. There are some great leagues around the world that attract plenty of betting action, and soccer games are played year-round. The most important thing when learning how to bet on soccer is looking at the betting options that are available. Here are the most common betting options for soccer, and some will be familiar to those that wager on other sports.

3-Way Moneyline Bet

One of the most common bets when it comes to soccer is what is known as a 3-way moneyline bet. Betting the moneyline is not a new concept, but things change a bit when talking about this betting option for soccer.  Because soccer games have the potential to end in a tie, there are actually three different betting options when making a soccer moneyline bet. Not only can you bet on each team to win a soccer match, but you can also bet on the “draw” as a betting option. This might be a new concept for someone that doesn’t usually bet on soccer, but it’s something to be considered.

Draw, No Bet

A draw, no bet is the soccer betting name for a straight up moneyline wager. This exact wager is offered on all of the top sports that are popular in the United States, but a new name is needed for the sport of soccer. There are only two options when looking to wager on the draw, no bet, but this bet is one that can end up without a winner. If the soccer match ends up in a tie then there is no winner and the stake is simply refunded.  Most bettors that spend a lot of time on soccer would agree that this is a better option to look at then trying to bet the three-way moneyline.

Over/Under

An over/under, or total bet, is another solid betting option when it comes to the sport of soccer. This isn’t a sport that usually has a ton of goals scored, and the over/under odds are going to look different than other sports.  There are some matchups where even one goal might seem like a stretch, and those over/under lines would be set at just 0.5. Other games will look similar to the sport of hockey as the over/under could be as high as 5.5. You only have the option to bet on the “over” or “under” with this bet, and the payouts are typically going to be the same for each wager.

Bet Against the Spread

Betting against the spread isn’t always extremely popular when it comes to soccer, but it will be an option that is available. The reason that the spread bet isn’t that po get much separation from their opponents.  It’s not uncommon to see a betting spread for a soccer match that is set at just 0.5 goals, but the most standard spread line is set at 1.5. Spread betting odds could also be different for each team, but you will usually see odds at -110 for each side of this bet.

Half-Time/Full-Time

One unique betting option when it comes to a soccer match is betting on the half-time/full-time result. There are some similar options for other sports, but this bet is more popular when it comes to the sport of soccer.  Correctly picking the half-time and full-time results for a soccer match can lead to a big win, especially if you are betting on two different sides. The odds for this type of bet will depend on what the sportsbooks think will happen in the overall match.

Correct Score

Picking the correct score of a game for most sports is nearly impossible, but that isn’t the case when it comes to soccer. Because soccer matches tend to be low-scoring it is possible to pick the correct score, and this could lead to a big payout.  There will be a handful of options to choose from when looking to bet on the correct score, and the potential payouts won what you choose. You will see an option of betting on a final score of 0-0 and that is something that simply can’t happen in other sports.

Live Betting

Most soccer bets are going to be made pregame, but that’s not the only time to wager on this sport. Live betting is one option that continues to become more popular, and it’s actually a great way to bet on a soccer match.  The odds and betting lines for live betting come and go quickly, and you don’t have a ton of time to wait around if you are making this type of wager. Picking the next team to score a goal is an example of a live bet to make, but there will be some other options.  Live betting does provide a huge advantage as you will be able to see how a game is playing out before placing this type of wager.

Props

Prop betting is extremely popular on all sports, and that is the same with soccer as well. The prop betting options might look a bit different when it comes to soccer, but the overall objective is still the same.  You won’t find a ton of prop betting options for soccer matches, because there just aren’t that many different ways to score or record a point. Betting on a goal scorer is a popular prop bet when it comes to the sport of soccer, and you can get some pretty good odds for this type of wager.  There will also be team prop betting options available, and you can make bets on specific instances that will take place during the game.
